Bhakoot (also written Bhakut or Rashi koota) is the seventh koota in Guna Milan and is worth 7 points. It looks at where the two moon signs (rashis) sit relative to each other.
How it's counted
Count from one person's moon sign to the other's (and back). Certain distances are traditionally considered less favourable:
- 2 and 12 (Dwi-dwadash)
- 5 and 9 (Nav-pancham)
- 6 and 8 (Shadashtak)
When the signs are in one of these positions, Bhakoot gives 0 points: this is called Bhakoot dosha. Other positions give the full 7.
Traditional cancellations
Many traditions consider Bhakoot dosha cancelled when, for example:
- Both moon signs have the same lord
- The lords of the two signs are friends
Exactly which rules apply varies between traditions and calculation methods.
Perspective
Like every koota, Bhakoot is a traditional indicator. It can't tell you about education, values or how two people talk to each other. Use it as one input and meet the person.
