A biodata for a new beginning
A second marriage biodata follows the same format as any other (personal details, education and work, family, about me, expectations, contact) with a little more honesty in two places: marital status and the about-me.
Marital status: one honest word
Choose the right status: divorced, awaiting divorce, widowed or annulled. If a divorce is in progress, "awaiting divorce" is the respectful term; families appreciate being told rather than finding out.
One calm line about the past
In the about-me, add one sentence, no more:
- "Divorced in 2023 by mutual consent, after a short marriage; no children."
- "Widowed in 2021. I have a seven-year-old son who lives with me."
- "Marriage annulled in 2022."
Don't explain reasons, assign blame or describe the former spouse. The biodata's job is to start a conversation; the story belongs in the conversation itself.
Children, always
If there are children, write how many, their ages and who they live with. It is the single most important line in a second marriage biodata, and the right families will respond to it warmly.
Partner expectations: be open
Second marriage biodatas work best when the expectations are open and specific:
- Whether you are open to someone never married, divorced or widowed
- Whether children from a previous marriage are welcome
- Age range and city
- What matters most now: companionship, kindness, shared values
What to leave out
- Details of the divorce case or alimony
- Anything negative about the former spouse or their family
- Long explanations: one line is enough
