Age gaps in arranged marriages
In many Indian families, a gap of two to five years between the partners has been the traditional expectation, often with the man older. Today families are far more flexible: same-age couples, larger gaps and women older than their husbands are all common and happy.
What matters more than the number is what it means in practice: similar stages of life, compatible plans for career and children, and two people who enjoy each other's company.
Legal age for marriage in India
The legal minimum age for marriage in India is 21 for men and 18 for women under the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006. A biodata should never be made for anyone below the legal age.
Writing age on a biodata
Write the date of birth rather than the age, because the date stays correct as the biodata is shared over months. Many biodatas show the age in brackets: "14 March 1998 (27 years)". Biodatas made here calculate it automatically.
